Uthuru Mithuru

Uthuru Mithuru The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) has launched this program on the 23rd of March 2009, exactly 53 years after the Yal Devi the popular train to Jaffna was first operated in 1956. The GoSL expects to make this a flagship project for rebuilding the country through rebuilding the vital Yal Devi Friendships.

CCTV is now shown in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankans now have the opportunity of viewing CCTV news. The launching of the CCTV News Channel which took place recently is further strengthening relations between China and Sri Lanka.

Viz Broadcasting Services will be handling the telecasting of this New
Channel in the island. The Channel will be bringing News and Feature
Programmes 24 hours of the day. The Western Province viewers can view
the CCTV News Channel on UHF Channel 29.

It will be expanded to cover the entire island in the future. Prime
Minister D.M.Jayaratne, Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella and Susil
Premajayanth and Media Secretary W.B.Ganegala were present at the
launching ceremony.

Shown in the picture is the recently built Central Chinese Television
(CCTV) headquarters which defied the popular conception of a
skyscraper and broke Beijing’s building codes and required approval by
a special review panel. The standard systems for engineering gravity
and lateral loads in buildings didn’t apply to the CCTV building,
which is formed by two leaning towers, each bent 90 degrees at the top
and bottom to form a continuous loop.

The engineer’s solution is to create a structural “tube” of diagonal
supports. The irregular pattern of this “diagrid” system reflects the
distribution of forces across the tube’s surface. Designed by Rem
Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren and engineered by Ove Arup, the new CCTV
tower rethinks what a skyscraper can be.
