The official celebrations of Victory Day, postponed due to inclement weather will be held on Friday (June 18) at Galle Face to mark the victory over the LTTE one year ago, the Director General of the Media Center for National Security Lakshman Hullugalle told www.news.lk today (08).
According to the Media Center for National Security, the National celebrations will commence at 8 am at Galle Face while at 4pm a commemoration ceremony will be held at the war memorial at Parlaiment ground in Kotte.
A special security and traffic plan is expected to be in place for the event at Galle Face.
The celebrations which were earlier scheduled to be held on 20 May had to be postponed owing to bad weather.
All schools to be developed under a new scheme.
The Government plans to launch an accelerated programme to develop all schools under the proposed new educational policy.
Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardean said the Educational Policy will be sculpted before the end of this year. All schools will be monitored and views of principals, teachers and students obtained. Plans are afoot to categorize schools as primary and secondary.
There are around 3.9 million students studying in over 9600 schools throughout the country. Schools have been categorized as primary,
secondary and national schools. While 385 national schools are being administered by the Central Government others are being administered by Provincial Councils.
The Minister said that the standard of all schools would be further upgraded under the proposed scheme.
